The Graduate School of Economics at Waseda University is now accepting nominations for the Asia Special Scholarship according to the guidelines listed below. This scholarship is open to students, research associates, or assistant professors currently enrolled at or affiliated with a partner university. Our school can nominate one individual for this scholarship. One scholarship recipient will be selected based on the screening process of the Asia Special Scholarship Selection Committee of Waseda University.
Application materials must be submitted to Foreign Affairs Office of the school (Room 308) by Feb. 25th, 2013. Interview candidates will be chosen by Waseda based on the criteria outlined in the recruiting policy and the application materials. Final decisions will be made following the interview. Once this process is complete,WasedaUniversity will contact partner universities and scholarship candidates. Notification that all application materials have been received, results of the documents screening process, and final results will be sent out by separate correspondence.
1. Eligibility
Scholarship candidates must meet both of the following conditions:
a. Upon completion of their master’s or doctoral program, individuals who have the potential to make significant contributions to their fields in their home countries as distinguished leaders in business, research, or other areas.
b. International graduate students (in principle, students enrolled in regular full-time programs) from the Asia region who have successfully passed the screening process without coming to Japan and been accepted to the Graduate School of Economics.
Students who are receiving financial assistance from governments, business or other scholarship foundations are ineligible for this scholarship. Students who have been approved to receive such assistance are also ineligible.
2. Number of Scholarship Candidates
Institutions can recommend one scholarship candidate to the Graduate School of Economics. The Graduate School of Economics will then review all applications and select one candidate to recommend to the Asia Special Scholarship Selection Committee of Waseda University.
(Please note that students who are admitted to a Master’s program and obtain a Master’s Degree are not eligible to continue receiving this scholarship if they decide to pursue doctoral studies.)
3. Scholarship Amount
a. Tuition and tuition-related fees to cover a standard course of study in a Master’s, PhD, or specialty area graduate school program (subject to an annual review of eligibility).
b. Stipend: 200,000 yen/month
c. Arrival Settlement Subsidy: 150,000 yen (One time on initial arrival to Japan)
4. Selection Process Schedule
